Solid Works Design Technician R&D - Full Time

Description:

Work with the Product Development Team to develop solutions to make consumer food packages easier to use. Reports to the Product Development Leader. Perform machinery development assignments which include taking a concept to shop ready prints, assembly, testing equipment under development, recording and organizing test results, brainstorming, and collaborating with the Product Development Team on product and application development.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under guidance, create prototype design with SolidWorks software
    • Determine material and component needs
    • Produce shop ready prints
    • Present prints to Machine Shop Supervisor for fabrication
    • Present BOM to Purchasing & Inventory Specialist
    • Organize files according to Sealstrip R&D SOPs using EPDM
  • Assemble machine prototype and modify as needed
  • Test success of prototype at agreed intervals
    • Implement changes/improvements
    • Test success of changes/improvements to prototype
  • Write reports on a regular basis
    • Daily written reports to document progress, learnings, and obstacles
    • Test reports to document purpose, procedure, and outcome/improvement
    • Project reports on the transfer of equipment and knowledge from R&D to other departments
  • Meet regularly to discuss project status with R&D team
  • Perform additional functions as requested

Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of experience in SolidWorks PDM for designing parts and assemblies
  • Computer and internet experience: organizing files, email, researching parts and mechanical methods to solve problems
  • Experience in reading and creating assembly drawings
  • Experience in R&D or R&M in various industries with electromechanical devices
  • Experience in R&D at equipment manufacturer, especially the packaging industry or with flexible web handling
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working hands on with tools, i.e. tinkerer
